Mother Cabrini Way

A street in Manhattan today has been named in honor of Saint Frances Xavier Cabrini, Patroness of Immigrants, and the first American saint in the Roman Catholic Church. The Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (MSC)and the Cabrini Mission Foundation led the ceremony, unveiling the co-naming of East19th Street at 3rd Avenue “Mother Cabrini Way.”

New York Councilwoman Rosie Mendez said, “We must remember the work of Mother Cabrini, and try to model her humanity.” Pietrina Raccuglia, MSC Provincial, stated that today we are “honoring a woman who contributed a great deal to the world, taking care of those most in need.”

Mother Cabrini passed away 100 years ago this December. The order she founded has established schools and hospitals on 6 continents. Among the educational institutions is Cabrini University in Radnor, PA. #CabriniUniversity #CabriniMissionFoundation
