MDA Rocks Labor Day!

Another successful and emotional Labor Day weekend has come and gone with the annual Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon on myphl17.  The wonderful folks of the Philadelphia region contributed $2.28 million dollars to help find treatments and cures for neuromuscular diseases, pay for support services and MDA Camp.    Tim Furlong, Lori Wilson, Byron Scott and Aditi Roy joined me for the big event live from the Courtyard Marriott in Center City, Philadelphia.  The Mummers were representing, too. We heard from Uptown String Band, for example, and Francis Walsh, of Aqua, even manned the phones.  The Telethon has been a Labor Day feature for 45 years and the millions raised has not only through support services improved the lives of those living with any of more than 40 neuromuscular diseases, but has also developed treatments that are improving the quality of life and potential for overcoming the effects of the diseases.  The road to cures is being travelled. Volunteers included the great people of Lowe’s who have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars.  The Harley Davidson owners and dealers are always stepping up to the plate, as are the members of the International Association of Firefighters in locals throughout the region, including Philadelphia, Upper Darby, Reading and Evesham.  For folks with diseases such as ALS, Duchenne and Limb Girdle, MDA is hope.  Thanks to all the staff and volunteers and to all the contributors who are the workers making the hope a reality.  Special thanks go to the MDA families, the children and adults living with these diseases who take the time to inspire the rest of us to do the right thing.
