WHERE TO WATCH

Here’s an update on where to find the Mummers on TV on January 1, 2011.  The number one place and only place for guaranteed coverage of all the divisions is PHl17.  Coverage begins at 9 a.m. and runs through the outdoor parade which could end around 4:30 or 5 p.m. and then picks up again at 8 p.m. with the indoor performance of the Fancy Brigades.  Even if you go to the parade, you can leave your tv on as a show of support for the Mummers.

Here’s what’s available for folks living outside the PHl17 viewing area.  There is no, there will be no coverage on WGN America on January 1 or any other day.  There is no, there will be no streaming of the parade on the internet.  However, myphl17.com will be posting hundreds of photos and some videos as quickly as possible throughout the parade. That’s myphl17.com

There are 3 other tv markets in the nation that will provide at least some coverage of the parade.

New York: WPIX – will carry 2 hours on over the air channel 11.2, “THIS TV.” Check local listings for which hours and if NYC area cable/satellite has this same 11.2 coverage on a different channel number.

Washington, D.C.:  WDCW – will carry the parade on their primary station from 2p – 5p, and may carry the full parade on “THIS TV.”  Again check local listings day of the parade.

York, Lebanon, Lancaster, Harrisburg:  WPMT – will air the full parade, 10a-5p on over the air channel 43.2.  Check cable/satellite listings for the different channel numbers for WPMT.

  5. It just isn’t New Years Day without the Mummers parade! My cable company doesn’t have channel 17 anymore here in Elkton, Maryland. Many people who live here are from the Philadelphia area and would love to have channel 17 back and not just for the parade. I’ve emailed them, hope others will too!

  6. I have been broadcasting the parade all day, so was unable to respond. I hope the problem has been fixed.

  7. PIX was to have broadcast some of it on their 2nd channel known as “This TV.”

  8. My wife makes a sign for each string band. The parade watchers call her “Sign Lady”. This year because of surgery and some complications she couldn’t do them and had to watch on TV. But, just wait until next year! She took dozens of notes and is already planning an extravaganza of posters. We love the Mumers and all the good things they stand for, like family values, community participation and commitment. Keep strutting up Broad and we’ll be there waiting for you!

  9. I have never missed a Mummers parade since i was born until I moved to SW Fl and at first I was able to view the mummers and made me less home sick, But now with out the ability to see the parade on New Years day has made the day not so special, especially since i still have family that perform every year. What can be done to bring it back to national TV? I have dish and hope that it will be broadcast nexy year. Thank you

    • Everyone who wants national coverage has to write to WGN America in Chicago, to phl17 in Philadelphia and to the service providers, Comcast, FIOS and the satellite providers. RIght now, those businesses have very little data showing support that they can convince advertisers of for coverage outside of the Philadelphia region.

  10. At this time there are no plans to do so, Joann. There has not been enough ratings support to get advertisers to afford doing so, according to the executives. If enough people write PHL17 then perhaps that will change.

  11. As of this time there are no plans to do so. Not enough ratings support, according to the executives.

  12. You can purchase a DVD through the String Band Association. Go to http://www.philymummers.com and then click on “Click here to order 2011 String Band DVD’s”

  13. There are no plans to at this time.

  14. There are no plans to replay them until “Breakfast with the Mummers” on January 1, 2012.
